Bangladesh Complete Historic 2-0 Test Series Win Over Pakistan After 78-Run Victory

Bangladesh created history on Wednesday after defeating Pakistan by 78 runs in the second Test match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, sealing a memorable 2-0 series victory.

The hosts delivered an outstanding all-round performance, with spinner Taijul Islam leading the attack by taking six wickets and crushing Pakistan’s hopes of a record chase.

Pakistan resumed the final day at 316-7 while chasing a difficult target of 437 runs. However, the batting lineup failed to survive the morning session and the team was all out for 328.

Despite the defeat, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan fought bravely for Pakistan. He scored an impressive 94 runs and stayed at the crease for 166 balls, trying to keep his side in the contest. Rizwan also shared a useful 54-run partnership with Sajid Khan, who added 28 runs.

Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam once again proved to be the difference-maker. He dismissed Sajid Khan to complete his five-wicket haul before Shoriful Islam removed Rizwan in the following over, ending Pakistan’s final hopes.

Taijul finished with brilliant bowling figures of 6-120 in the second innings and also picked up three wickets in Pakistan’s first innings.

This victory marks Bangladesh’s first-ever home Test series win against Pakistan. It is also their second consecutive Test series clean sweep over Pakistan after winning 2-0 on Pakistani soil back in 2024.

Bangladesh’s batting unit also played a major role in the historic success. Litton Das scored a superb century with 126 runs in the first innings, helping the team reach 278.

In the second innings, experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim played a match-winning knock of 137 runs. Mahmudul Hasan Joy contributed 52 runs, while Litton Das added another valuable 69 runs as Bangladesh posted 390.

Under the captaincy of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh dominated the series from start to finish. They had already won the first Test by 104 runs before securing another famous victory in Sylhet.

After the match, Pakistan captain Shan Masood admitted that his team made several mistakes during the series. He said Pakistan failed to perform well in key moments and paid the price against a strong Bangladesh side.

Masood also stated that Test cricket is highly challenging and teams must consistently deliver strong performances to achieve results.
