Mohammad Amir Gets British Citizenship, Could Now Play in IPL

Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir has officially received British citizenship and has also been issued a British passport, according to recent reports.

The major development has sparked fresh discussions in the cricket world, as Amir is now technically eligible to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL), something that has remained impossible for Pakistani players for many years.

Reports suggest that Amir has been residing in the United Kingdom with his wife, Narjis Khan, and their children for a long period. After fulfilling all legal and residency requirements, the left-arm pacer successfully obtained UK citizenship.

On Wednesday, Amir appeared to confirm the news by reposting a congratulatory message shared by a social media user celebrating his British nationality and wishing him success for the future.

At present, the Board of Control for Cricket in India does not allow Pakistan-based cricketers to take part in the IPL. However, former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood previously managed to feature in the league after acquiring British citizenship.

With a British passport now in hand, Mohammad Amir could become eligible for IPL participation if any franchise shows interest and an official opportunity arises. The experienced pacer has also spoken positively in the past about the possibility of playing in the world’s biggest T20 league.

The news has already created excitement among cricket fans across Pakistan and India, with many eager to see whether Amir’s IPL dream finally becomes a reality.
