Punjab Deploys Massive Veterinary Teams at Cattle Markets Ahead of Eidul Azha
1,800 Veterinary Workers Assigned Across Punjab to Ensure Healthy Sacrificial Animals
MULTAN: In preparation for Eidul Azha 2026, the Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department has launched its biggest-ever veterinary campaign across the province to protect sacrificial animals from diseases and ensure smooth public services during the festive season.
According to officials, a total of 1,851 veterinary staff members have been deployed at 251 different locations throughout Punjab. The teams are actively working at 56 cattle markets, 175 animal sale points, and 20 inter-provincial checkposts to monitor livestock health and stop the spread of contagious diseases.
Authorities said preventive measures are already underway on a large scale. More than 185,000 animals have received anti-tick spray treatment, while over 10,000 animals have been medically treated by veterinary teams so far.
To further strengthen biosecurity measures, officials have also sprayed 1,128 livestock transport vehicles entering Punjab in an effort to reduce the risk of infectious diseases spreading between provinces.
The arrangements were reviewed during a high-level meeting chaired by senior officials of the department. Punjab Livestock Secretary Ahmed Aziz praised the efforts of frontline veterinary workers and instructed field teams to continue prioritising animal health, disease control, and uninterrupted services for citizens during Eidul Azha.
For public assistance, the department has also established a 24/7 toll-free helpline, along with provincial control rooms and veterinary hospitals operating at district and tehsil levels across Punjab.
The initiative aims to provide safer and healthier sacrificial animals to citizens while maintaining strict disease prevention protocols during one of Pakistan’s busiest livestock seasons.
